The Dr. Antoni Esteve Foundation publishes the Cuaderno Cómo elaborar un proyecto en ciencias de la salud, a manual that brings together the experience in the development and evaluation of research projects of a number of professionals in Spain and Europe. Coordinated by Blanca Lumbreras (Professor of the Department of Public Health at the Miguel Hernández University of Alicante), Elena Ronda and Mª Teresa Ruiz Cantero (both professors of preventive medicine and public health at the University of Alicante), its aim is to illustrate what to include and how to construct a research project.

Although the response of the teaching staff in this transition has been admirable and teaching is being developed from day one through the network, this session will review some fundamental keys to e-learning and will review the contributions of the "emerging pedagogies" for these times of confinement.

Beall's List was a prominent list of predatory open access publishers that was maintained by University of Colorado librarian Jeffrey Beall on his blog Scholarly Open Access. The aim of the list was to document open access publishers who did not perform true peer review, effectively publishing any article as long as the authors paid the open access fee.

For those who are used to writing on the internet, markdown is an interesting, fast and efficient approach. Markdown is a simple way to add formatting to web texts. By formatting we mean italics, bold, lists, and more, in plain text - for example, the text we find in the HTML viewer of blog editors, or in Windows Notepad, to make the concept more accessible. Markdown was originally created by John Gruber, with the help of Aaron Swartz, for the purpose of creating plain text that was easy to write and easy to read, and that could be easily and validly converted to XHTML.

The purpose of this entry is twofold: on the one hand, to review the proposals of the Committee on Publication Ethics, or COPE (from which we have extracted the above quote) in relation to who is justified in appearing as co-author of an article, and on the other, to present them accompanied by good practices from a pragmatism that not only is not at odds with COPE, but also helps to place them in the context of current academic production. This is why we speak of both ethics and pragmatism in the title.

Publishing in the so-called impact journals, identified as those indexed in the Thomson-Reuters databases, has become the main objective of researchers and R&D institutions. Therefore, in this course we present some tips to maximise the chances of acceptance of manuscripts submitted to this type of journals. First, we define what an impact journal is and its benefits for both researchers and institutions. Then we develop some aspects to consider during the preparation of the manuscript such as authorship, the preparation of tables and graphs or the preparation of bibliographical references. Once the manuscript has been prepared, we concentrate on the fundamental criteria for selecting the appropriate journal. Finally, we review different factors to take into account during the submission process and, once submitted, we focus on the peer review process and the response to reviewers.

The VOSviewer software version 1.6.7 is a software tool for building and visualising bibliometric networks. Capable of reaching journals, researchers or publications, they can be constructed based on citation, bibliographic linking, co-citations or authorship relationships. VOSviewer also offers text extraction functions that can be used in concurrence networks of important terms extracted from a body of scientific literature.

Gephi is open-source network analysis and visualisation software written in Java on the NetBeans platform. Written by John Giba, American author of several publications on biomedical English, this new book complements the course with the same title organised by the Dr. Antonio Esteve Foundation throughout Spain.

ROBERT A. DAY is a professor of English at the University of Delaware, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in scientific and technical writing. For 19 years he directed the publishing programme of the American Society for Microbiology and was managing editor of the Journal of Bacteriology and eight other scientific journals published by the ASM. He was then Director of ISI Press. He is a past president of the Society for Scholarly Publishing and of the Council of Biology Editors. He is also the author of Scientific English: A Guide for Scientists and Other Professionals, second edition, published by Oryx Press in 1995.

This book, the last published during the author's lifetime, is a record of his last course at the Collège de France in 2001. His aim was to subject the field of science to a historical and sociological analysis. Pierre Bourdieu starts from the tension between reason and history. On the one hand, the challenge of the Enlightenment: the possibility of a reason that emancipates itself from historical contingencies. On the other hand, the observation of the social sciences: reason is always inscribed in a socio-historical context. To resolve this antinomy, Bourdieu proposes the path of a rationalism that assumes its historical part. Starting with a social history of the sociology of science and a survey of the reflections of Merton, Kuhn, Feyerabend, Durkheim, among others, the author gives a master class in meta-science, the sociology of science, and the philosophy of science.
