Signe obtained her Doctoral Degree in Gene Technology at the University of Tartu (Estonia) in 2010. She then started her postdoc period at the Karolinska Institutet (Sweden). In 2011, she was awarded with a competitive Spanish Ministry grant 'Estancias de jóvenes doctores extranjeros en centros Españoles' and in 2013 she obtained the highly prestigious Marie Curie Post-Doctoral Individual Fellowship for performing Post-Doctoral research at the University of Granada (Spain). In 2016 she was elected as Marie Curie Senior Researcher at the Department of Women's and Children's Health, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden and in 2018 she obtained the prestigious Ramon y Cajal Researcher position in a Spanish University.
